Second Harvest Internship
Summary of the past couple weeks of work:
Our main tasks include pantry, packaging, and some kitchen work (Friday only).
1. Pantry
This work day include tasks such as organizing the food donated into their appropriate expiration date since we would want to give out the food products that will expire soon.
These food products, on most of the days, are placed into baskets and boxes for the food pick-up in the afternoon. Food pick-up is when families come to choose from the food products we have to offer.
The list of items that each family receives includes bread, alpha rice (ready-made rice), snacks, drinks, seasonings, noodles, and frozen food.
2. Packaging
Packaging is basically what we do in pantry except we would sort the food products into boxes to be sent out to families who cannot come to pick them up.
3. Kitchen Work
I've already described kitchen work in a previous post so as not to be redundant, I will not re-describe the jobs we are assigned to in the kitchen. However, I will make a note about how welcoming the staffs always are and how willing they are to make a conversation with me despite our language barrier. I even got to talk with a nice elder about this big festival his hometown will be having in August and apparently I am invited.
